Dr. Mircea-Andrei Sandu

Andrei studied Human Medicine in Bucharest and scored among the first 2% in his graduating class. Having developed a special interest for cardiology, he enrolled for a PhD at Hannover Medical School in the lab of Prof. Kai Wollert. In his PhD thesis, he describes how a protein released from apoptotic monocytes contributes to heart regeneration after myocardial infarction. The results have been presented at the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting (2018) and are currently in publication process. Currently, Andrei is working as a resident in the Cardiology Department at Hannover Medical School. Apart from his clinical duties, he engages in translational research focusing on interorgan crosstalk in heart disease.
