Prof. Vasile Ostafe has been working at the West University of Timisoara since 1990. He currently teaches biochemistry to the students of the Faculty of Chemistry, Biology, Geography. He is also the coordinator of the scientific activity carried out within the Multidisciplinary Research and Training Platform “Nicholas Georgescu-Roengen” – Advanced Environmental Research Laboratories.
Mr Ostafe’s scientific work includes the biochemical, enzymological and toxicological study of different compounds present in pesticides, mycotoxins, foodstuffs, etc., using advanced analytical techniques such as high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), affinity chromatography, enzyme kinetics analysis and others.
His Ph.D. thesis, carried out at the Institute of Biochemistry of the Romanian Academy, is entitled “Isolation and characterization by affinity interactions of biologically active substances with applications in analytical and preparative biochemistry”, was awarded the Romanian Academy honors of Magna cum laude (top 5).
